ADAMI TULU PRESCHOOL EXPANSION

Through the efforts of Misgana Ministries and several other interested parties, the Adami Tulu Preschool building and property were rescued from being given to secular investors. The school continues to operate to provide an education in a Christian environment to many young children.

In 2010 the one large classroom was divided into two in order to provide room for the Nursery School students (age 4) moving up to Lower Kindergarten (LKG-generally age 5). Following that, however, there was no room for the LKG students to move to Upper Kindergarten (UKG-generally age 6).

Just in time, and in answer to many prayers, in 2011 a team of Americans stepped forward with the funds to build an additional building containing four classrooms. This team consisted primarily of families who had adopted Ethiopian children and had a strong desire to remain connected to Ethiopia and to give back for the great gift of a child they had received through adoption.

With this addition giving us a total of six classrooms, we are now able to provide two classrooms each for Nursery, LKG, and UKG. This building and these classrooms are beautiful, durable, and functional and will serve the students of Adami Tulu for a long time. The building was completed just in time for the beginning of the 2011-12 school year.

The quality of the new building is much better than that of the original building we found on the property. In the process of the building the new classrooms, we also built a new latrine, much better than the pit surrounded by corrugated tin which the students used previously. We upgraded the feeding program facility, built a new guard house, added a strong cement block wall between the compound and the busy road, upgraded the main gate, and added another nice service gate.

The property is now much more attractive and functional than it was previously.

The team has indicated a desire to continue to upgrade the property, because for the next school year there again will be no room for those students moving to first grade. They hope to sponsor construction of another block of four classrooms which will give us capacity to accommodate two classrooms each of first and second grade. Our primary prayer is that the Lord’s will be done.

We are thankful for this opportunity to reach so many children (many are Muslim and Orthodox) with the gospel of Jesus Christ at such a tender age. We have found that many of our students are actually the “evangelists” who take the message of Jesus’ love back to their families, even at this young age.

The Adami Tulu campus as seen from atop the mountain across the highway (lower middle part of the picture). Adami Tulu means “Cactus Mountain” in the Oromo language, and it is from this mountain that the town takes its name.

The flagpoles and some of the playground equipment are also visible. The new building house two classes each of Lower Kindergarten and Upper Kindergarten, while the original building is used for Nursery School. The small building in the middle is the upgraded latrine and hand washing facility.
